As a professional boxer, you experience unique stressors. There is no “off season” or guaranteed fight dates scheduled a year in advance like other professional sports. Not always knowing when the next payday will come leaves you feeling anxious. Feeling the weight of it all can get heavy. Training camps may be long and as strong as your mindset is, being away from family or home can still leave you feeling guilty. Other stressors may include promotional and managerial contracts, fights falling through or changed after you have already been promised one thing, making weight, fighting temptations and feeling misunderstood. It can be a lonely place. You spend hours on end in the gym, which is good for your physical and mental health, but now you want to take it one step further.
Imagine a life (not just a career) where you no longer have these roadblocks that get in the way of where you want to be. The world around you can’t always be changed, but past trauma that has impacted you and negative feelings about yourself wont’ be in the way. You will overall feel better, less on edge or anxious and at peace.
We offer a variety of mental health treatment modalities to fit your needs. The first one is EMDR therapy. EMDR is not your typical talk therapy, but rather helps your brain digest specific stressful or traumatic memories and negative beliefs, and replaces with more positive beliefs about yourself. It has been proven to also increase performance by disabling roadblocks in your brain and body. Think of quicker and more effective results. We provide in-person, on-site services on weekends. In just 3 days you will have received results equivalent to about 2 months of weekly therapy. It is recommended that you practice this at least 2-3 months before a fight or anytime after. We know time is sensitive for you and you are ready to feel better! We got you.
If you are looking for more a talk type therapy, to include thought work and exploration, we offer Emotional Focused Individual Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy virtually via telehealth or at our office in Salinas, CA just about 30 minutes from the Monterey Bay.
